American Fork residents know that the technicians at Gunthers Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing are experts in handling home cooling needs. If an air conditioning system breaks down in the local region, we will be there to fix it. However, our technicians have studied climate-control systems that do more than just keep things cool. They are certified experts in complete HVAC technology. HVAC is way more than just AC.

Air Conditioning Basics

Especially in the summer months and in warmer areas of the country, air conditioning is a critical part of home comfort. Air conditioners come in many shapes and sizes, from small window units to larger AC units that can cool a whole house. These units work by the same principle: passing air over a refrigerant to blow cold air into your home and vent warm air outside. Our technicians can professionally install, maintain and repair these kinds of cooling systems.

Understanding HVAC

The main difference between air conditioning and HVAC is that air conditioning is only one piece of a total HVAC system. A traditional HVAC system starts with a heating system. A furnace produces heat and warm air is blown through ducts throughout the building. There are several types of heating system fuels, including fuel oil and natural gas. There are also a growing number of environmentally friendly systems such as geothermal heat pumps.

The ā€œVā€ in HVAC stands for ventilation. Full HVAC systems include equipment that will allow an exchange of indoor and outdoor air. This used to be primarily the concern of commercial buildings where windows could not easily open. However, many modern homes are also now built with ventilation systems. New residential homes are built tighter than older homes, which increases the efficiency of heating and cooling systems but also creates a need to get fresh air inside.

The final piece of the HVAC puzzle is the air conditioner. In a complete HVAC system, the AC unit is connected to the same ductwork as the furnace. In the cooling season, cold air comes out of the same vents as warm air in the heating season.

At Gunthers Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing, we can handle all the parts of your climate-control system whether it is heating, cooling, or ventilation. We can also help with plumbing.
